Eco-responsibility within the GIN

Lien vers ECOGIN

The EcoGIN group was set up in September 2020 on the initiative of a few GIN staff concerned about the institute's environmental footprint. Today, it includes around ten members, doctoral students, researchers, engineers and assistant professors, all of whom join the group on a voluntary basis to carry out eco-responsible actions in addition to their research.

EcoGIN has links with other collectives such as the national Labos1point5 collective, where 1point5 means that the 1.5°C threshold could be crossed as early as 2030, according to the IPCC's 2021 climate report. The Labos1point5 collective represents more than 500 laboratories and is committed to leading the French research community in reducing its environmental footprint.

The EcoGIN group's actions have led to institute-wide sorting and recycling of masks, polystyrene waste and IT equipment. Weekly sobriety recommendations are published in the "One week at GIN" newsletter.
A carbon balance sheet for the institute has also been drawn up for 2022, to serve as a basis for defining a relevant strategy for reducing greenhouse gases.
