Cerebral small vessel disease quantification - tools development and application to population cohorts

Séminaire

Séminaire par Carole Sudre (MRC Unit for Lifelong Health & Ageing, University College London)

Cerebral small vessel disease is an important but often understudied pathological component of brain ageing related to dementia onset, stroke and general cognitive decline. With strong links to many preventable risk factors of cardiac disease and dementia, its understanding is crucial for a better prevention of age-related diseases. In this talk, I would like to discuss my experience in working on the development of quantification tools for cerebral small vessel disease and their application to population cohorts including the oldest running birth cohort (NSHD), UK Biobank and a tri-ethnic UK cohort. Beyond the technical details, this presentation will emphasise the importance of building a diverse and collaborative community aware of the issues of data acquisition, annotation, method reproducibility and the importance of addressing methodological issues relevant to core health questions.
