Cortical development: Understanding neuronal differentiation and its contribution to neurodevelopmental disorders
le 2 juin 2022
11h30
Séminaire de Froylan Calderon de Anda (Zentrum für Molekulare Neurobiologie Hamburg, Allemagne)
During early brain development, when functional circuits are established, our brain is particularly vulnerable to environmental and genetic perturbations. Disturbed cortical development is one likely cause underlying the risk of developing neurological disorders like autism spectrum disorders (ASDs) and schizophrenia. Due to the complexity of mammalian brain development, we still have limited insight into the underlying mechanisms that give rise to functional networks, and which developmental aspects can result in abnormal brain function and selective neuropsychiatric vulnerability. Moreover, our knowledge about the process of neuronal differentiation in vivo is limited. My lab has established a research program focused on developmental neurobiology aimed at deciphering how extrinsic factors and intrinsic programs determine neuronal morphogenesis ultimately to better understand brain connectivity in health and in developmental disorders.
