Regulation of MAP6 activity by liquid-liquid phase separation


The objective of this project is to understand how liquid-liquid phase separation of the neuronal protein MAP6 can regulate the assembly of the cytoskeleton.


Liquid-liquid phase separation (LLPS) is an emerging field in cell biology and a means of controlling protein concentration and activities. We have recently observed that the MAP6 protein, which interacts with microtubules and actin, may be involved in LLPS. MAP6 plays a role in neuronal development, signaling and plasticity and MAP6-KO mice are used as an animal model for schizophrenia. The aim of this proposal is to further investigate the conditions required for MAP6 to undergo phase separation, how this behavior is regulated and the implication for its activity on microtubule and actin cytoskeleton properties.
