IRM préclinique : Développement d’une sonde RF pour l’étude de la perfusion cérébrale

You will be part of a collaboration between the Grenoble Institute of Neuroscience (France) and Bruker, a society specialized in scientific instrumentation whose manufacturing and R&D site is located in Karlsruhe (Germany). The goal of the project is to design an arterial spin labelling (ASL) radiofrequency coil (RF) for magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) in small rodents.

During the first part of the project, you will be mainly situated in Grenoble, and the second part will be predominantly located in Karlsruhe. You will be working in an multidisciplinary environment, gathering skills in a wide range of disciplines such as MRI fundamentals and applications, animal physiology, 3D electro-magnetic simulations, RF engineering and more.

• Understanding the basics of ASL techniques

• Performing ex-vivo and potentially in-vivo measurements on preclinical MRI systems to acquire reference data for the design of the RF coil

• Evaluation and post-processing of MRI datasets

• Getting to know the fundamentals of MRI RF coil development

• Optimizing the RF coil geometry using 3D EM-simulations based on the previously gathered anatomical information

• Thorough documentation of the project progress and results

• Currently enrolled in a master program in an area closely related to physics or electrical engineering

• Strong affinity to computer sciences and simulations

• Eager to acquire new competences from areas not directly related to the typical disciplines within your master program

• Diligent, thorough worker with high willingness to acquire new skills

• Prepared to travel between Grenoble and Karlsruhe

• Very Good language skills in English. Additional language skills in German and/or French are a bonus.

Timing and compensation

6-months project during the second semester of the 2019/2020 university year.
Bruker offers a 900 €/month compensation during the 6-months traineeship, as well as a travel allowance to Karlsruhe.
